Imaginary solutions of Imaginary reportage is my final project for my BA degree studies. Yet another book love affair and first project with publishing in mind. It is three different adaptations of one book (Imaginary reportage of amercian pop-festival by Tibor Déry, 1971) that I love and read many times. Each book varies both visually and intention-wise. While the smallest book is designed to be taken outside in your pocket the biggest one is a bibliophilia object, collectible that should be kept safe and be carefully handled.
The little book is to be taken on travels, it’s size is designed to fit the back pocket of your favourite jeans, it is made of very resistant materials, so bending or water wouldn’t hurt this little buddy. The cover is printed on PVC banner that is commonly used for billboard commercials and the book itself is printed on paper’s pvc look-alike NeverTear Premium, that you (as it’s name says) can never tear. The design is inspired by the 1969 Altamont festival, The Rolling stones and visual culture of typewriters and newspapers – all little bit’s that connect with the book’s story. All the photos used are taken at the actual festival too.
The medium oneis designed to fit in with the books we commonly see in bookshops. The size, cover and inside materials are all easily obtained and worked with. The idea was to create a book that could be produced without any trouble in the mainstream publishing market. It’s jacket is folded abstract poster for the 1969 Altamont festival held up in it’s place and closed with a round sticker title. If the reader is curious enough to unfold the poster there are more stickers enclosed inside. The visual aspects of this book are inspired by the visual culture of 1960’s, the bright psychedelic colours and crazy typefaces.
The last one is a collector’s piece. On the cover there are two original linocut prints accompanied by two linear drawings on a tracing paper that’s there to protect the original prints. You can see them at the frontispiece as well where there one overprints the other, again secured by tracing paper with a drawing. Throughout the book there’s growing handprinted stain reminding you the story. All the materials were picked carefully to fit the noble purpose of a collector’s book. This one is to be handled carefully, approached with some sort of intimacy, that’s why the theme here is the story of the lovers (do read the book) rather than something wider like The Rolling stones or the groovy 60’s.
F*ckin’ awesome things here. I’m very satisfied to look your article. Thanks so much and i’m having a look ahead to contact you. Will you please drop me a mail?
